What is Love?

By | Carls Bail Bonds

What is Love?

We, as a society, are obsessed with love. Love is everything, and is connected to the meaning of life, yet how do we define it? Places all over the world have different descriptions for it. Even in languages there are different meanings for the simple word.

According to Google, love is an intense feeling of deep affection or is when you feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment. With this broad definition, it’s no wonder that so many people are confused about what love is. The Greeks have several different types of love that help define the feeling. According to Psychology Today these types of love are:
Eros – Sexual love
Philia – Friendship love
Storge – Family love
Agape – Universal love
Ludus – Playful/Uncommitted love
Pragma – Practical love
Philautia – Self love

In the Spanish language there are also two types of love. You can either say “te amo” or “te quiero” both say, “I love you”, however they hold different meanings. According to English to Spanish Raleigh, a translation service, “te quiero” would be a love that you have for your best friend. “Te amo” would be appropriate to use towards your spouse or family.

Across the world in different languages we try to describe love in many ways. We say, “I love you” in thousands of ways. Our obsession with finding love has driven us to do incredible things. With all of us looking for love, it’s crazy to think that every person’s love is completely different from one another.

How Do You Know You Found “The One”

How Do You Know You Found “The One”

Finding you’re fairytale ending is what most of us think about. Being with the one person that makes you a better version of yourself is a shared dream we all have. This has become the apple of our society’s eyes. How do you find it and how do you know what you found is real?

The current generation has been raised on Disney and fairytale love. However, this generation also has apps that make hooking up with strangers easier than ever. Deciphering whether or not you have the real deal can be complicated. Sure there are a bunch of quizzes online and you could even look at astrological signs to help you, but those don’t really help a whole lot. Thankfully, we have E-Harmony with a list of signs that mean you found the one:

You’re No Longer Playing the “Game” – When you’ve found “the one” you won’t be playing the dating game anymore. You won’t be chasing the perfect relationship, because you are in the perfect relationship.
You are Good Enough – You no longer feel the need to impress anyone else because “the one” makes you feel like you are enough.
Conflict is Easily Managed – Arguments will happen, and if you’re with “the one” you both will work through disagreements and find resolutions together.
Simple Tasks become Interesting – Your normal routine becomes more exciting when you’re with “the one.”
There’s No Drama – When you’re in the relationship with “the one” you’ll find minimal to no drama. This may be because you are no longer playing games in the relationship.
You’re Friends and Family Get It – You no longer have to explain to your friends and family why you love “the one” because they understand it. Your friends and family see how your relationship works, and they love it.
You Make them Happy – You can make “the one” happy just as much as they make you happy.
Same Life Goals – Your goals are similar, if not the same, as theirs.
Respect – You both hold mutual respect for each other.

Finding “the one” is a challenge, but staying with “the one” shouldn’t be too difficult. When it comes to deciding whether or not you found the one, you really shouldn’t have to ask yourself this. It should be obvious in the way that your relationship is so different than previous ones. You can rely on silly quizzes, or astrological signs, but ultimately only you will know the true answer.

Dating Apps Influence

Dating Apps Influence

In today’s modern and fast paced world it makes sense that we’ve started online dating and using dating apps. We used to write love letters, now we write witty text messages. Dating apps help get us out there. They’re a great way to let the digital world know that you’re ready to mingle. Unfortunately, dating apps seem to have lessened the meaning of a relationship since we can easily swipe right on to the next person.

We live in the age where it’s not embarrassing to have an online dating profile. It’s normal for a person to have multiple profiles across different sites. There is a dating app for just about any diverse groups. For example, if you like to smoke marijuana, there’s a dating app for that. As well as if your diet is gluten free, there’s a specific dating app for you as well. The possibilities are endless.

Vanity Fair released an article titled “Tinder and the Dawn of the ‘Dating Apocalypse’” which discussed the influence dating apps have on relationships. We’re in a “hook-up culture” according to the article. The use of these apps could be just for sex, or to actually find love. These apps make it as if you’re “basically ordering a person.” With these apps we’re also experiencing a whole other level of superficiality.

Dating Apps typically have the setup of either swipe left for no, or swipe yes to be matched. All you get to see of a person is a short bio and maybe three pictures. That’s all you get when you have to decide whether or not you want to be matched with someone. If you are matched, when the person you swiped right on swiped right on your picture too, you are then allowed to have an actual conversation with them. You can match with several hundred people, all based on looks.

Dating apps have created the ideal world for short-term relationships. The dating game has changed all because the accessibility to it that we have at our finger tips.

Scams Targeting Concerned Grandparents

By | Carls Bail Bonds

Scams Targeting Concerned Grandparents

Unfortunately for every single good person out there, thousands of horrible people lie in wait to take advantage of someone. A popular scam that is going around lately targets the grandparents of people who spend a lot of time on social media sites. These scammers will use the information of the people they find on Social media sites to pretend to be that person.

Once the scammer has gathered enough information, they will contact the grandparent and tell him or her that they were arrested and need bail money. They will ask that the grandparent not mention this problem to anyone else in the family, for fear of being embarrassed. If the grandparents give the caller money, the scammer will disappear with money, never to be seen again.

Luckily, this scam can be avoided by following these two tips:
Ask the caller a lot of questions. Ask why the person’s voice sounds different, and they may reply with their nose was broken during or before the arrest. Ask as many questions as possible to try and trip them up. They may have some of the answers, but they probably won’t have all of them.
Talk to the family. If they do not want the rest of the family to know, then that should raise some red flags. The best thing to do is to talk to the rest of the family. You might discover that the grandkid that “called” is actually safe at home.

Scammers prey off of their victims panic and fear, and one of the best ways to scare someone is to cut them off from the people they trust. This is why scammers never want a person to think things through, or talk to loved ones. If you are ever put into a situation where some is requesting money, but doesn’t want to give you the time to think about the situation, it is likely a scam, and should be avoided.

New California Marijuana Laws for 2018

By | Carls Bail Bonds

New California Marijuana Laws for 2018

It’s a brand new year, and that means new laws for Californians. One of the big ones this year, is the ability for marijuana dispensaries to legal sell their product to anyone who is over the age of 21. This is something that some Californians are very excited about, however, they need to realize that there are still restrictions on how and where marijuana can be used.

Starting January 1st, licensed marijuana dispensaries will be able to sell their products to of age, legal adults. Anyone under the age of 21 is not legally permitted to buy or use marijuana in any form. If a minor is caught using then they will be required to take a drug education course and perform community service. Any dispensary caught selling product to a minor will risk losing their license and paying a hefty fine.

There are also restrictions for where marijuana can be used, just like there are restrictions for drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. For instance, marijuana cannot be smoked in public areas, or near schools. A person is also not allowed to drive while under the influence of marijuana.

The use of marijuana in California has been approved for recreational use. This means it can be used by a person in the privacy of their own home. They cannot use it in a way that disturbs other people. If a person plans on enjoying this new law, they need to make sure they understand all of the laws surrounding the use of marijuana. If they don’t they could find themselves in more than a little bit of trouble.

California: The Sanctuary State

California: The Sanctuary State

For those unaware, the start of the new year also marked the start of California being a sanctuary state. The controversial decision to become a sanctuary state was decided on by California politicians at the end of 2017. At the beginning of October, Governor Jerry Brown signed it into law, and the law would take effect on January 1st, 2018.

By becoming a sanctuary state, California has announced itself a safe place for undocumented and illegal immigrants. The new law effectively limits what state and local law enforcement agents can do to assist federal immigration authorities. The law bans enforcement agents, at both the local and state level, from enforcing immigration holds on arrested individuals.

This new law is in direct defiance of President Trump’s calls to focus on deporting millions of undocumented and illegal immigrants. This only led to a greater rift between Washington D.C. and the state of California.

Many California police chiefs opposed the bill in its early stages, and switched to a neutral stance when the bill was later amended. However, many still express concerns for the safety of the general public. They fear this new law will allows certain career criminals, ones who stick to lower levels of crime, will be continually released back onto the street due to the new law.

Only time will tell if California’s decision to become a sanctuary state was a good idea or not.

Drive High, Get a DUI

Drive High, Get a DUI

2018 is bringing a lot of new changes to California laws. One of the biggest is that licensed dispensaries will be able to sell marijuana to anyone who is over the age of 21. This new law will make it easier for individuals to get ahold of marijuana, which will likely lead to more people using this. Unfortunately, this can include drivers.

A person should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle when they are under the influence of any kind of substance. Doing so can negatively affect their ability to safely drive a vehicle, and lead to an accident. This is why the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has started a new campaign: Drive high, get a DUI.

This new campaign is to remind everyone that it is illegal to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This includes driving while high on marijuana. Being high can impair a person’s motor skills and reaction times. This makes them more likely to get into an accident than drivers who do no smoke marijuana.

In an effort to keep the roads safe, the CHP will pull over anyone who they suspect is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If a person wishes to avoid this, then they need to be safe while driving. This means they should not drink alcohol, or ingest marijuana, before getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

What Legalizing the Sale of Marijuana Means

By | Carls Bail Bonds

What Legalizing the Sale of Marijuana Means

This new year brought Californians the ability to sell marijuana. This also allows folks the opportunity to purchase marijuana for recreational use. You may be under the impression that this means you can smoke whenever and wherever you want. However that’s not the case.

It’s important to remember that though it is legal in California to smoke recreationally, and medically, it is still not legal nationally. That means you can still get into trouble federally and that on government property, marijuana is still very illegal.

Another area where Californians have to be cautious is when it comes to driving. Along with the legalization of sales of marijuana, another bill passed making driving while high illegal. If you’re driving with marijuana in your car, you must have it stored in a container in your trunk according to the LA Times.

As soon as the clock hit midnight on New Year’s Eve, people began lining up to buy marijuana. However, dispensaries may face issues with their revenue. Most banks are nationally accredited and insured. Since marijuana is illegal at the federal level, banks cannot supply services to marijuana dispensaries. This leads to many dispensaries requiring cash-only transactions.

With marijuana sales and recreational use being such a new concept for this state, it will be interesting to see what other laws will be developed. The sale of marijuana means a fun time to some, but to others it’s a bit more complicated.

Surf’s Up! Why You Should be Surfing in the Winter

Surf’s Up! Why You Should be Surfing in the Winter

One of the many benefits of living in California is that you’re right by the coast. In California, you can go ski the mountains, hiking in the pines, drive through the desert, and surfing on the coast all in one day. Some might assume the best time to go to the coast is in the summer. That might be true if all you want to do is lay out in the sun. However, if you’re a surfer, you’ll find the best time to go catch some waves is in the winter.

That is if you want bigger swells. According to Surfline, the perks of surfing in the winter include: less crowds and a bigger swell. The winter swell usually occurs in November to February. Even though you can surf year round, winter has a few perks.

The fewer people in the water allows you to focus one performing tricks. You won’t have to worry about accidentally running someone over with your surfboard. This also reduces the stress of unintentionally going into another’s surf line.

Larger swells means it’s perfect to attempt some tricks. Typically, in the summer months you’ll get swells of 1-2 ft. In the winter months, you’ll get swells of 2 ft. and higher according to Surfing Waves, a surf report website. Since the swell is larger than normal, the winter season is perfect time for sports.

Even through the winter months are prime time to surf, it is also very cold. The water temperatures drop in the winter and so wet suits are highly recommended to stay warm. Surf socks, or booties are also suggested to help you stay focused on the surf and not the cold. Just because the colder weather rolled in, doesn’t mean you have to give up surfing.

The Stages of Grief

The Stages of Grief

As we welcome in the New Year we might find ourselves letting go of past relationships. Even though you may be excited for the fresh start you might find yourself going through the five stages of grief. Even though you’re cutting off a bad relationship, you are still dealing with a loss. These steps are the same if you are experiencing a death, or divorce as well. These five steps can apply to any big changes in ones life:

Denial – This stage is when you believe that the reality of the situation is untrue. You may believe that your reality is dream, and cling to a falsehood.
Anger – This stage is when you may become frustrated with the reality. This is where you might look for someone, or something to take your anger out on.
Bargaining – This stage is when you believe there is another option to avoid the reality. This is when you believe you can make a compromise.
Depression – This is the stage that you may feel the most withdrawn from reality. You may experience a deep sadness and a lack of purpose.
Acceptance – Is the stage when you come to terms with reality. This is the most positive stage you can find yourself in. Typically when you’ve reached this stage, you’ve completed the five stages. However, that is not always the case.

According to Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, author of On Death and Dying, created the model of the five stages of grief after extensive research. These stages of grief don’t fall into any order and do not have a set amount of time in which they occur. This means that you can spend two weeks in denial, but only one day in anger. Kubler-Ross found that these five emotions are the most commonly shared among people.

Significant changes in one’s life can emotionally derail us. However, understanding these five steps can help you get back on track. Just know, if you’re experiencing grief of any kind, it will eventually pass.

Motorcycle Laws

Motorcycle Laws

Each state has different laws in regards to a lot of things, but what you may not think about is the difference in motorcycle laws. California has a different set of laws pertaining to motorcycles than others states. If you’re thinking about getting your motorcycle license (M1), you may want to look at all the laws and requirements first. It’s not as simple as buying a bike.

Here are some of the laws the California DMV has in regards to motorcycles:

• Eye protection is not required.
• In order to be street legal motorcycles must have turn signals and a mirror.
• The age requirement to obtain a M1 is 16.
• If you are under 21 years old, you must take a safety course in order to get your M1.
• If you are over 21 years old you must take a skills test in order to obtain your M1.
• “Lane Splitting” is authorized per California Highway Patrol.
• Helmets are required of all motorcycle riders and must be Department of Transportation (DOT) approved.
• When carrying a passenger, footrests for the passenger are required.
• There is no age limit for a passenger.
• Periodic safety inspections are required by law, but are at random.
• Daytime use of headlights is required for all motorcycles from 1978 and later.

There are several more technical laws in regards to handlebar height, insurance speakers, and ear plugs. There are two laws that vary the most between the states. Those two are the helmet laws and lane splitting.

The helmet requirement, even though it seems obvious for safety reasons, is not a law in other states. States like Texas don’t require riders to wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle. As long as they have completed a rider safety course, or have the proper insurance coverage. However, if you are under 21 in the state of Texas you must wear a helmet.

The lane splitting law is also different between states. Again, most states, like Texas do not authorize lane splitting. Lane splitting is when a motorcycle shares the lane with another vehicle, or rides the line between lanes. Lane splitting is common in heavy traffic situation. Motorcyclist will use lane splitting to pass vehicles.

If you’re ever in doubt of motorcycle laws in your area, the DMV suggests looking at their Motorcycle Safety pamphlet. Another great source of information for motorcyclist is the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) website. On AMA they also have more information about off-road motorcycle laws, as well as all of the road laws. Motorcycles can be fun, and freeing to ride. However, if you don’t follow the laws you might not be a free-bird for very long.

How to Recover from Identity Theft

How to Recover from Identity Theft

We all only have one identity, and for most people that is enough. However, some bad people out there like to steal other people’s identities to gain access to funds they normally wouldn’t have. This is called identity theft and can be very damaging to the person whose identity was stolen.

Most people learn about identity theft after some damage has already been done. They discover the theft when strange bills start coming in, or when they try to apply for a loan. That is when they find out their identity was stolen, and their credit ruined.

Thankfully, this is not the end for them. It is possible for a person to recover from identity theft. The first thing they need to do after discovering the theft, is contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and file a report of the identity theft. The FTC will ask questions about the theft, and inform the person on how they can recover from the theft.

After that has been done, the person will then need to contact the companies where they know fraud from the identity theft occurred, and alert them to the problem. The person should also issue a fraud alert and get a credit report, which will allow the person to check for any other incidents of fraud. Lastly, a person can file a report with their local police department.

Learning of identity theft can be startling and upsetting, but it is possible to recover. The most important part of recovering from identity theft is remaining calm. This will help the person make good, clear decisions while on the road to recovery.

Getting a Safe Ride Home in 2018

It is the start of a new year, and that means new laws will be going into effect. One such law is California State Assembly Bill 711. This new law will allow alcohol manufacturers and licensed sellers to provide customers with discounted or free transportation through a taxi or other ride sharing service.

The idea behind this new law is to try and reduce the amount of drunk driving accidents that can occur. This will provide people who have consumed alcohol a safe and convenient way to get home. With this new law, bars and alcohol manufacturers will be able to offer vouchers for free, or discounted rides through a local transport service. Examples of these services include taxis, Uber, and Lyft.

Before this law, alcohol manufacturers and providers were not allowed to provide their clients with any sort of reward or incentive to drink their product. Under this new law, these providers will be able to offer vouchers for free or discounted rides home, however, they cannot be offered in a way that forces customers to purchase their product.

California is not the first state to allow alcohol manufacturers to provide this kind of service. There are 44 other states that have enacted a similar law in an attempt to reduce the amount of drunk driving accidents that occur on their roads.
